The GEORGEL Cancer Foundation is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising cancer awareness, promoting early detection, and providing compassionate support to patients and caregivers. We are a formally registered entity with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), incorporated on 26 August 2025 (Reg No: 8744109) in Nigeria.
Our work is guided by a clear mission: to ensure that individuals and communities are informed, empowered, and supported in the fight against cancer through education, prevention, screening access, and psychosocial care.
Mental health for caregivers and families
Strengthening referral and community networks
Combating misinformation about cancer
Livelihood support for patients and survivors
Increasing public knowledge on early detection and preventive practices to reduce the national cancer burden.
Facilitating life-saving screening services through strategic partnerships with hospitals and health institutions.
Engaging government parastatals and media to advocate for improved cancer care standards and legislation.
Providing compassionate assistance and safe psychosocial spaces for patients, survivors, and their caregivers.
Securing financial and material aid to support underserved and rural populations with limited healthcare access.
Collaborating with like-minded global and local organizations to scale our reach and impact.
Since our inception, we have carried out impactful initiatives. We partner with government parastatals, media houses, and hospitals to facilitate essential screening and advocacy. During Pink October, we lead extensive breast and cervical cancer awareness campaigns. We are proud to be officially registered with the Nigerian Cancer Society, aligning our work with national standards.
On February 17th, we presented research on the psychosocial impact of cancer on caregivers and participated in the North Central Mega Rally. We also donated premedication supplies to the Jos University Teaching Hospital Radio Oncology Unit.
As the year progresses, we continue to extend our outreach to local government areas, churches, mosques, schools, and rural communities. Our vision is to strengthen cancer care and health education across Plateau State and the North Central region of Nigeria.

Retsum George is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GEORGEL Cancer Foundation. Her journey into cancer advocacy is deeply personal, born from the loss of her brother and the witnessed physical, emotional, and financial toll on her family.
Rather than allowing that loss to remain a painful memory, Retsum chose to turn it into purpose. GEORGEL was created to ensure no one faces cancer alone, offering education, advocacy, and safe spaces through support groups.
While her personal faith provides strength, the foundation is built on inclusivity, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds. Her vision is to bridge the gap between awareness and access to care, restoring hope to every life touched by cancer.
